What is the Melbourne Unitarian Universalist Fellowship?

The Melbourne Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is a progressive spiritual community in Melbourne that welcomes people of all backgrounds and beliefs—including those with no religious belief. ​

We’re a non-creedal fellowship. This means we don’t require you to believe specific doctrines. Instead, we believe that the freedom to explore your own spirituality—or non-belief—is an intrinsic right.

We share seven guiding principles and draw from diverse sources that inform our actions. We’re seekers after meaning and direction in our lives.

Who We Are: Our Ethos Statement

Our fellowship is a community of individuals who support each other in seeking spiritual meaning and direction in our lives. When we gather, we seek to create a sacred time and place. As Unitarian Universalists, we take action in support of a fair, just, and compassionate society. All are welcome in a spirit of mutual respect.

What We Do

Our monthly services blend music, readings, reflection, and conversation. We explore ethical living, social justice, and life's big questions through discussion and mutual support.

Beyond our Third Sunday services, we connect through monthly discussions, film screenings, shared meals, and our annual retreat.

  • Socialising Together

Third Sunday Fellowship

We enjoy sharing meals together. We usually go out for coffee after our Third Sunday services.

It has become our tradition to share a Thanksgiving Dinner each November, bringing our fellowship closer together in gratitude and celebration.

  • Annual Retreat

Each year we hold a weekend retreat as a way of joining together our in-person and Zoom attendees. We stay at the Old Loch Hospital in Loch, Victoria.

Our weekend together includes a mixture of structured activities—discussions and talks—alongside downtime for meditation, exercise, music, walks, and good food.

Our Fellowship offers Rite of Passage services, including:

  • Other types of services

There may be other occasions, besides marriages, naming ceremonies and funerals, when it is appropriate to mark a significant life event. Other possibilities include a separation service in the case of divorce, an acknowledgement of a person's sexuality or gender alignment, or marking a retirement.

In each case, a Unitarian celebrant will work with the person concerned to devise a form of service that will acknowledge the event and its significance in a form that is appropriate to the unique situation. Please contact us for more information.
